UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN

Outreach & Consultation

Mission Statement

As an integral part of the Counseling Center and in keeping with its mission, the Outreach and Consultative Services (OCS) area promotes a community perspective by extending the services of clinical counselors beyond the physical site to the campus as a whole. OCS provides deliberate, systematic, and creative psycho-educational programming that emphasizes a multicultural and developmental perspective on prevention, wellness, and student self‑help. We work collaboratively with other staff and programs within the Center as well as with other departments and units to enhance the general campus climate.

The University of Illinois Counseling Center is committed to serving the mental health needs of students. This includes reaching out to students through consultations, workshops and other psycho-educational forms. Outreach requests are available to students, faculty and staff with sufficient notice (at least two weeks). Various workshop topics covered in the past include time management, stress management, relationship conflicts, stress management and how to recognize depressive symptoms, just to name a few. Please refer to our workshops on request form if you would like to utilize these services. If you have further questions call our office at 333-3704 or e-mail our current outreach services coordinator Deidre A. Weathersby, Ph.D. at daweath@uiuc.edu

Liaison Services
Outreach services include providing consultation services to academic and other student service units across campus. The counseling center has worked to establish strong relationships across various units on campus. Currently we provide direct liaison services to the Colleges of Business, Education, Engineering, Law, The Graduate College, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, General Curriculum and Veterinary Medicine as well as all cultural centers on campus. Our clinical staff also provides services to family housing and campus housing. The liaison service provides clinical consultation to students within the units and/or develops programming designed to meet their psychological and developmental needs. If you would like to access liaison services please call the counseling center.
