2025-26 Pre-Professional Graduate Assistant: Suicide Prevention Outreach Team
Position Title:
Pre-professional Graduate Assistant for the Counseling Center with an emphasis on the Suicide Prevention and Outreach Team (SPOT).
Type of Position:
25-33% graduate assistantship, nine months, beginning August 16, 2025. This position is a pre-professional graduate assistantship (PGA) geared for students in Clinical Psychology, Community Health, Counseling Psychology, Educational Policy Organization and Leadership, Educational Psychology, Medical Scholars, Nutritional Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Speech and Hearing Sciences, or other approved academic programs that would meet qualifications for a pre-professional experience.
Description:
This PGA will provide project team-specific outreach and prevention programming. The PGA will also aid with general Counseling Center operational needs. The PGA will support the Counseling Center’s Suicide Prevention and Outreach Team’s core activities of delivering prevention, psychoeducation, awareness, and resource-linking. Developing knowledge and skills of macro/micro systems, mental health, risk factors, and the relationship between suicidality and marginalized students will support this candidate’s success.
Duties:
- Conduct general outreach and prevention programming for the Counseling Center.
- Conduct regular operational assistance for the Counseling Center.
- Perform outreach and educational efforts as directed by the Counseling Center’s SPOT team including tabling events, larger-scale outreach events, and marketing efforts to promote awareness.
- Design and implement outreach based on current student needs and trends.
- Attend and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Contribute to ongoing development and maintenance of outreach materials, both SPOT-specific and general Counseling Center outreach.
- Participate in supervision of undergraduate Counseling Center Paraprofessionals (CCPs) in outreach roles and specific project team activities designated for SPOT Outreach.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
This position is a pre-professional graduate assistantship (PGA) geared for students in Clinical Psychology, Community Health, Counseling Psychology, Educational Policy Organization and Leadership, Educational Psychology, Medical Scholars, Nutritional Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Speech and Hearing Sciences, or other approved academic programs that would meet qualifications for a pre-professional experience. Experience in a mental health setting is desirable.
Availability during the Counseling Center’s business hours (Monday, Tuesday and Friday 8 am to 5 pm; Wednesday and Thursday 8 am to 7 pm). Must also be flexible to work some evenings and weekends.
There will be a mandatory orientation for this position, which will be held from 9 am to 5 pm; date is TBD but will
take place on or after August 16, 2025, and no later than August 22, 2025.
Compensation:
Commensurate with current university policies on graduate student stipends and fee waivers. All applicants will
be required to fill out a FAFSA form to assess eligibility for Federal Work Study Assistantships.
