Position Title:
Pre-professional Graduate Assistant (PGA) for the Counseling Center with an emphasis on Programming for Queers and Allies
Type of Position:
25% to 33% graduate assistantship, nine months, beginning August 16, 2025. This position is a pre-professional graduate assistantship (PGA) geared for students in Clinical Psychology, Community Health, Counseling Psychology, Educational Policy Organization and Leadership, Educational Psychology, Medical Scholars, Nutritional Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Speech and Hearing Sciences, or other approved academic programs that would meet qualifications for a pre-professional experience.
Description:
Assist in the development and delivery of services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, agender, and beyond people (LGBTQIA+) in the university community and in development and delivery of services concerning issues of sexual orientation and gender identity to all people in the university community.
Duties:
- Conduct general outreach and prevention programming for the Counseling Center
- Provide regular assistance to general counseling center operational demands
- Attend Counseling Center’s Queers and Allies (Q&A) Committee meetings and Ally Network Training Committee (ANTC) meetings. Provide administrative support to these committees. Serve as a liaison to campus LGBTQIA+ groups
- Participate in the development and delivery of programs around LGBTQIA+-related issues and other diversity programming
- Participate in the planning for Pride, National Coming Out Day events, Day of Silence, Transgender Day of Remembrance, Transgender Day of Visibility, and other LGBTQIA+-related events
- Participate in training and supervision of undergraduate Counseling Center paraprofessionals in their development and delivery of programming around LGBTQIA+ issues, outreach roles, and skill building workshops
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
This position is a pre-professional graduate assistantship (PGA) geared for students in Clinical Psychology, Community Health, Counseling Psychology, Educational Policy Organization and Leadership, Educational Psychology, Medical Scholars, Nutritional Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Speech and Hearing Sciences, or other approved academic programs that would meet qualifications for a pre-professional experience. Experience in a mental health setting is desirable.
Availability during the Counseling Center’s business hours (Monday, Tuesday and Friday 8 am to 5 pm; Wednesday and Thursday 8 am to 7 pm). Must also be flexible to work some evenings and weekends.
There will be a mandatory orientation for this position, which will be held from 9 am to 5 pm; date is TBD but will
take place on or after August 16, 2025, and no later than August 22, 2025.
Compensation:
Commensurate with current university policies on graduate student stipends and fee waivers. All applicants will
be required to fill out a FAFSA form to assess eligibility for Federal Work Study Assistantships.
