The University of Illinois Counseling Center is pleased to accept proposals for the 2022 Dennis H. May Conference on Diversity Issues and the Role of Counseling Centers, which will be held in-person on the University of Illinois campus September 11-12, 2022. This year's conference theme is "Financial Well-Being: Addressing Economic Disparities Within Campus Communities." Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Darren Bernal of the University of North Carolina at Ashville, who will be discussing how economic disparities, immigrant status, and food insecurity affect college students.
Please consider submitting a program proposal that addresses ways colleges can assist students with financial well-being and provide therapeutic interventions. Proposals could focus on recognizing and addressing microaggressions, examining power and privilege, offering resources, and developing multiculturally-competent outreach and interventions. Program proposals that address this year’s conference theme will be given priority consideration.

When submitting a proposal, please note that we are looking for a brief content overview of the area you’ll be exploring followed by action-oriented steps to promote change. Please provide all requested information as incomplete proposals will not be considered for selection. If your proposal is accepted, the presentation title, presenter information, and abstract you provide will be included in the conference program—please be sure the information you submit is accurate. More than one proposal may be submitted; however, multiple acceptances will be reviewed with consideration for conference schedule limitations. Proposals are due by midnight central time on July 25, 2022. You will have 60 minutes total to hold your discussion. Notification of selection will take place no later than August 2, 2022. To allow as many to participate as possible, we may ask you to consider collaborating with others in the event that similar proposals are submitted.
